Tired of lifting your phone in the air to get coverage when in a party or camping in the wilderness? Well…here is a brand new way to communicate outdoors. The gotenna mesh is a device that allows you to communicate with other users who has a gotenna mesh device without coverage in the area.

How does it do it? The gotenna mesh is a stick-like device that uses a private mesh network….absolutely no service provider needed. It allows for point to point communication and by having many gotenna users between yourself and the person you are communicating to…you will able to hop through users (via the shortest possible distance) which can extend the long range via the mesh network. It is able to send text messages, locations and maps but not voice and images. The device is paired via Bluetooth to your smartphone which goes along with a gotenna App to provide the interface for communicating. The battery life lasts about a day and it is indicated by the app…just recharge it and you are ready to go on your adventure.

The gotenna mesh is an essential survival gear to have in cases of outdoor camping or when there are natural disaster occurrences. The more users there are….the longer the range is…so imagine the possibilities when there are so much users that you can roam for free while travelling by taking advantage of the mesh network….awesome. Though it’s a bit pricey, it does come in a pair and can really pull you out of a predicament when there is no signal in the area. It is ideal for a garden walkway, living room, porch, bedroom or even the bathroom. Improve the look to your home and with its relatively affordable price, it can be a house warming gift for a friend or family. The minor downside to it is that it uses 3 AA batteries but of course you can always invest in USB batteries to always have your candle lighting when needed. The Etape16 is an ideal tool for the Mr. Fix It around the house or for people who work in the profession of carpentry, mason or construction. It is so easy to measure, simply measure your distance and use the hold button to capture that measurement. With its large digital display, it makes it easy for the user to see the measurements taken.

The Etape16 features 4 buttons, unit conversion from cm to inches, a hold button to capture a measurement, a centre button to obtain the half mark of the distance measured and a button used for inside and outside measurement so that you don’t need to bend a measuring tape at a corner again. Just like a standard measuring tape it also has a lock tape button. It uses a 3v coin battery which can be replaced easily by pushing a clip at the bottom of the tape. Moov Now offers an activity band that I have ever heard of in the past. The second generation tracks your movements in 3D and provides audio feedback in real time to improve your performance….technically your own personal coach. It comes with the Moov Now tracker and two straps, one for your wrist and one for your ankle. Its material design is a smooth elastic rubber and is outfitted with holes which allows for your skin to breathe. Simply place the Moov Now tracker on the band and that’s it. It is placed snuggly so it doesn’t fall out when performing vigorous training. It does not monitor your heart rate so you don’t have to have the band tight on your wrist.

I have added Jim’s review to demonstrate how it works with the app, both available for Android and IOS, which is specifically designed for the Moov Now. The app have various exercise options which includes running, cycling, walking, swimming, boxing and home exercises such ask push-ups, planking, squats, jumping jacks and much more. The app has the option to change the difficulty of any exercise from amateur to pro. This product can be a great cost saver in the gym – you will have your own personal coach, the time will be more convenient to your schedule and it tracks your performance real time to give you feedback such as to increase your stride or put less pressure on your impact while running. Overall I believe this product is one of the best fitness tracker with the slight downfall of the mechanical voice for the feedback…it can probably be annoying to some people, but the Moov Now gets a 4.8/5 star rating.

Hello all, Gadget Tecki is back and today we are heading to the kitchen. This neat little kitchen tool can bring a big help to all our chefs out there. Swiss company, Kuhn Rikon, has brought help to the kitchen with the fancy gadget – Kuhn Rikon 5-in-1 Jar Opener & Auto Attach Can Opener Set.

That has to be the longest name for a product I have ever seen. Anyways, this comes in a 2pc set – a jar opener and a can opener. This gadget can open almost any jar or can which can be found in the kitchen.

The jar opener opens pull tabs, crown caps, screw caps and even jar lids. The can opener opens tins with a clean cut. It can be a great help for all our women chefs who are struggling to open those vacuum type lids, no need for those muscular men to open these jars…total independence. I am not a fan of the kitchen but this kitchen gadget gets the job done and earns a 4.3/5 star rating.

Have you ever been in a situation where you have completely used up your notebook? Did you ever stick another notebook onto the first book? Have you ever lost your book and had to rewrite all those notes over….especially school work? In the office, are you accustomed using a diary…but eventually needed to input that information on your computer? This can be tedious…you can always use a scanner but it is not always readily available.

No fear…introducing rocket wave smart notebook and the rocket book wave app which is available for both the IOS and Android. This is an ideal book to have with you if you are a person who take notes often or attend a lot of meetings. The book has many pages and at the end of each page there is seven symbols, whereby you assign one to a particular app that uses cloud storage such as Evernote, Dropbox, Google Docs or even your email. You write your notes/drawings using a special Pilot FriXion Ball Erasable Gel Pen on the book….the pen allows you to erase instantly. When you are ready to upload your notes to the cloud, simply choose the symbol which is assign to the cloud storage service ( your choice ), go on the app and the app’s rocket book machine vision scans in a second and sends it to the designated cloud storage. The book is available in two sizes – Executive and Standard.

Ok so…what’s the big deal…is just a notebook that can send your information on the cloud with an app….anyone can just take a picture using their phone and send it anywhere from their storage to the cloud services. Now this is the cool part of this book. You can re-use this book countless times because it is microwaveable. That’s right…microwavable. Microwaving your book can remove all contents of the book (of course after you sent all your notes to the cloud services). Just get a cup of water filled ¾ of the capacity, place the cup/mug on the circles of the cover page and wait for the logo wave to disappear then repeat this process for back cover until the logo disappears…and presto…brand new notebook again. You will never have to buy another notebook or diary again. This notebook is ideal for meetings, university students but can be used for much more. The pens for this book can be purchased separately which is its minor downfall but overall this product is a handy gadget to have and has earned a 4.8/5 star rating.

This has to be one of the most intuitive ideas I have ever seen. The ability for anyone to view your photos as a video when the photo was taken at that very moment. Yes…I am going to repeat what I said…the ability to show people what you were experiencing at that very instance it was taken…..simply mind blown. Lifeprint has turned your photos to a video using augmented reality. Lifeprint is a portable printer that must be associated with a free app (both for the IOS and Android) called Lifeprint also developed by the company to turn a photo of your choice into a video.

Setting up the device is easy. Step 1: Open the back and place the special printing paper, Step 2: Ensure that is charged, Step 3: Hold the power button for 5 seconds and Step 6: Enable your Bluetooth on your mobile device.

Once the setup is done go on the Lifeprint app. The app allows you to link to social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram so that you can access any of your photos on those websites and of course the photos that are stored locally on your device. Did I mention that Lifeprint is actually a social media application also….so you can share your videos to your friends who have the Lifeprint app. When you have selected your video, you can trim it to 10-15 seconds, then choose a frame within the video and that is what the picture will print out as. Simply select print and that’s it. The print takes less than 30 seconds to process….now select the hyperphoto option on the app and there you go….you have now travel back in time to re-experience a moment in your past.

So I am sure you are going to ask…so where do I put the ink in the printer…..haha. Believe it or not this is absolutely inkless. It uses heat on the paper to produce colour for the photo. Now you can edit the picture using filters on the app before your print and the quality of the photo is pretty decent. The slight drawback if any is that it only comes with ten paper sheet...which means you will have to purchase more paper….and actually the paper is not even expensive. You can get 50 pages for $28.00 which works out to be around $0.50 per paper. Trust me if you are purchasing a Lifeprint device …you might as well buy a box of Lifeprint phot paper because the tons of excitement you are going to have with this…..will be short-lived by only 10 pages…(sad face).

The major drawback is phone compatibility. Sorry for my low end phone users but the Lifeprint are compatible with high end mobile devices…such as Samsung Galaxy S6 and higher models, iPhone6 and higher models, HTC 10 and higher models, LG G5, Google Pixel and Sony Xperia XZ.

For that 15 seconds rewind in time to re live an experience and to share your experience with others…this gadget gets a 5/5 star rating!

The UO Smart Beam is probably the world’s best portable laser pico projector. The UO Smart Beam is outfitted with a Class 1 Laser which has been approved by the FDA which means that the laser is harmless to your eyes if looked directly into it. This makes it child proof and thus any one can enjoy this device. Another feature that makes this projector stands out from the rest is that the average ANSI Lumen for pico projector is 32 lumens. Guess what UO Smart Beam lumens rating? 100 lumens…..that’s right a staggering 100 lumens…how insane is that?? You can literally watch television in a cave in absolute darkness.

Amazon Echo

Have you ever watched the TV game show- Jeopardy? Isn’t it amazing that there are people out there that know so much about the world? Wish you could have been a contestant in that game show…well it is possible. Amazon has created a device that offers you that learning experience…that device is call Amazon Echo. Amazon Echo often referred to as Alexa, is an interactive device for the family that perform various functions by talking to the device. Communicate with it to do many things such as play music, ask educational questions, obtain traffic reports, news, weather reports and much more. It uses far-field technology to interpret the user commands so you don’t have to speak loudly. The more you interact with Alexa, the greater Alexa gets to know you to provide more specific answers. Alexa operates with Wi-Fi and has an audio auxiliary port to attach external speakers to.

Amazon has 3 models – Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Plus. Now each device does the same thing in terms of interacting with it, but there are minor differences. The echo dot is the cheapest one of them all. It offers the same services as the others but its speaker is not so great and it is recommended not to play music through the device thus its best to use with an external speaker using Bluetooth or the auxiliary port. The Echo, which is my preference, has a better speaker and produces a much better sound quality. Now the Echo Plus produces similar sound quality and the Echo, features a dial system instead of buttons to adjust volume and really and truly the only reason why someone will choose the Echo plus over the Echo is the fact that it features a built-in ZigBee Smart Home Bridge.

ZigBee technology and Wi-Fi uses the same 2.4GHz frequency which will cause them to interfere and affect the performance of the devices. Now this is useful only if your house is outfitted with many smart home products such as lights and motion sensors….but you can always buy a separate ZigBee bridge which is actually affordable.

There has been some controversial issues with the device with regards to security. Alexa powers off when you ask it questions based on the NSA (National Security Agency). Overall Alexa is a great device that provides family entertainment and the Amazon Echo in my opinion is the better choice.

Keewifi is an easy router to set up and a new way to authenticate your devices. With the evolution of technology, the involvement of robotics are making our daily tasks very easy to perform. 

Thalmic Labs has found a way to use (EMG) electromyograpic sensors to sense electrical signal from forearm muscle activity combined with an accelerometer, magnetometer and a gyroscope to recognize gestures.

Thalmic Labs has created a device called Myo to operate with this EMG technology. Myo enables the user to control technology wirelessly such as video games, videos, presentations, music and visual entertainment using various hand motions.

It operates using a standard Bluetooth Low Energy Frequency (2.4GHz) with a clear field range of 15m (50 ft) between your Myo Armband and the device in which you are trying to communicate. Reemo

Have you ever been in a position that you are just too exhausted or physically unable to move around as easily you will like to? Would you like to have psychic powers to turn stuff on with your mind? Well……there is a gadget that sort of….gives you that effect. Meet Reemo….a device created by Playtabase, designed to allow you to control your household devices such as lights and appliances. It as simple as pointing to the device and performing a hand movement. Setting up this device is simple. Place the wireless receiver near the device you want to control and plug the device you want to control into the receiver’s smart plug and then into an outlet. Reemo is waterproof, rechargeable and can also work with over 22 million devices in homes.

The concept started in 2012 and in 2014 the production of an Alpha prototype was to be released. Since then there has not be any new updates on whether this product will be in production. However, while this concept was in the air at that time, another company called Thalmic Labs created their own gesture band that performs the same effect. This product is called Myo and is actually in production. When will Reemo be available on the market?....No one knows.
